Computer Vision Reimagined

At the time of Allumia’s investment, Gauss Surgical marketed the only FDA-approved medical device platform that enables real-time monitoring of blood loss during surgery. The company’s technology offers an intuitive iPad-based user interface, requires minimal training, and seamlessly integrates into existing surgical workflows. Images of the surgical sponges and blood-bearing suction canisters are captured by the mobile application and then processed using cloud-based computer vision and machine learning algorithms to accurately quantify blood loss in seconds.

Date of investment: 2015
Sector: MedTech
Company status: Exited in 2021 (acquired by Stryker [NSYE: SYK])
Associated team: Dan Galles
